Randy has been an athletic trainer for The Orthopaedic & Fracture Clinic since 2005. A native of Owatonna, Minnesota, he earned a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, and athletic training from Minnesota State University, Mankato, in 1979. He later earned his master’s degree from the University of Houston in 1987.

Randy joined the National Athletic Trainers' Association in 1974 and became certified in athletic training by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer in 1979. He is currently a licensed athletic trainer with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice.

Randy began his career in 1979, serving eight years as the athletic trainer at Memorial High School in Houston, Texas. He then served three years in the same capacity at James E. Taylor High School in Katy, Texas. Since returning to Mankato in 1990, he has served as the athletic trainer working with South St. Paul, New Ulm, Mankato East, Mankato West, Maple River, St. Clair, Le Center, Cleveland, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton, and Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High Schools. He has been the primary athletic trainer for Mankato West High School since 2005.

Randy’s experience also includes being a preceptor for the Athletic Training Education Program at Minnesota State University, Mankato. He also served as the athletic trainer for the Mankato MoonDogs baseball team for four seasons. In addition, he is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Great Lakes Athletic Trainers Association, and Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association. He currently serves on the Minnesota Athletic Trainers' Association Secondary Schools Committee.

Randy and Rachel Palmer reside in North Mankato and have two adult children, Kyle and Allison, both of whom are graduates of Mankato West High School.
